How to update your profile settings

Change your BaseBuddy display name and avatar from Profile settings, and understand why your sign-in email is locked.

Use this when you want to change the name or avatar shown in your BaseBuddy account menu and profile surfaces.

Profile settings are for your display information. They do not change project access, author bylines, Auth providers, passwords, or the email address you use to sign in.

Open Profile settings

  1. Sign in to BaseBuddy.
  2. Open your account menu from the sidebar or top navigation.
  3. Select Profile settings.

The page heading should say Profile Settings, and the main page title should say Profile.

Update your name

  1. Find the Name field.
  2. Enter the display name you want BaseBuddy to show.
  3. Click Save changes.

BaseBuddy trims extra spaces before saving. The name cannot be blank.

After the save finishes, you should see Profile updated. The status text changes back to Profile details are up to date.

If you change the field again, BaseBuddy shows You have unsaved profile changes. until you save or undo the change.

Update your avatar URL

In the Avatar section, paste a public image URL into Avatar URL.

Click Save changes.

After saving, BaseBuddy stores the URL in the local config file for your account and updates the avatar shown in your account menu.

Understand the locked email field

The Email field is shown for reference, but it is disabled. This email is your login identity, not profile display information.

Select the lock control labeled Email is locked to confirm the behavior. BaseBuddy opens a dialog that says Email cannot be changed. Select Got it to close it.

To change how people sign in, review your authentication setup instead of editing this profile screen.

Verify the change

After saving, open the account menu again.

You should see the updated name and avatar in the menu. If the form still says Profile details are up to date., BaseBuddy has no unsaved profile changes on this screen.

If the save button is disabled

Save changes stays disabled when there is nothing to save, while BaseBuddy is saving, or when the Name field is blank after trimming spaces.

Make a real name or avatar URL change, then try again.

Keep profile settings separate from authors and members

Your profile name and avatar identify your signed-in BaseBuddy account. They are separate from project member roles and separate from author records used for content bylines.

If you are deciding whether someone needs a sign-in account, an author record, or both, see Authors vs members: what is the difference?.
