How to use keyboard shortcuts
Use supported post editor shortcuts for formatting, structure, Save, and navigation.
Use keyboard shortcuts in the post editor when you want to format text, change block structure, save dirty edits, or move around the editor without leaving the keyboard.
Shortcuts work while focus is inside the post editor. To see the current list in BaseBuddy, click the keyboard icon in the editor toolbar or press Cmd+/ on Mac or Ctrl+/ on Windows.

Before you start
Open a mapped post first. The shortcuts below apply to the post editor area, not to project settings, mapping screens, or your browser.
BaseBuddy follows the same editing rules whether you use the keyboard or the toolbar:
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
Cmd+S or Ctrl+S | Saves dirty mapped fields only |
| Formatting shortcut | Changes the selected editable content in the editor |
| Structure shortcut | Changes the current text block or list when supported |
| Publish, Unpublish, or Archive | Only runs when you click the explicit workflow action |
Save does not publish, unpublish, or archive content as a side effect. Workflow actions stay separate from ordinary saves.

Save from the keyboard
Use Cmd+S on Mac or Ctrl+S on Windows after you change an editable mapped field.
BaseBuddy saves only fields that became dirty in the current editing session. If you changed body text, the save should write that mapped body storage. It should not rewrite unrelated fields, reshape your table, or change workflow state unless you intentionally edited a mapped workflow field that is editable.
If the post has no dirty fields, the shortcut should not create a new content update just because you pressed Save.
Use formatting and structure shortcuts
Select text before using text formatting shortcuts such as Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough, or Insert or edit link.
Use structure shortcuts with the cursor in the block you want to change. For example, Cmd+Option+2 on Mac or Alt+Shift+2 on Windows changes the current block to Heading 2 when that block is editable.
List shortcuts work in editable content fields. Tab and Shift+Tab indent or outdent list items only when the cursor is inside a list.
Open the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog
To review shortcuts without leaving the editor:
- Open a post.
- Put focus inside the editor.
- Click the keyboard icon in the toolbar, or press
Cmd+/on Mac orCtrl+/on Windows. - Review the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog.
- Close the dialog and continue editing.
The dialog uses the shortcut labels for your keyboard platform.
Verify a keyboard save
Test keyboard saving the same way you would test the Save button:
- Choose one safe post.
- Change one harmless editable field.
- Press
Cmd+SorCtrl+S. - Reopen the post and confirm the edit remains.
- Check the database row if this is your first production test.
Only the dirty mapped field should change. Publish, Unpublish, and Archive should remain separate actions that run only when you click those workflow buttons.
If a shortcut does not work
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| Shortcut opens a browser feature | Make sure focus is inside the post editor |
| Formatting does not apply | Confirm the field is editable and the text is selected when needed |
| Heading or list shortcut does nothing | Confirm the cursor is in an editable rich text or markdown content field |
Tab moves focus instead of indenting | Confirm the cursor is inside a list item |
| Save shortcut does not write anything | Confirm you changed a mapped editable field and the post has dirty changes |
| Workflow state did not change | Use the explicit Publish, Unpublish, or Archive action instead of Save |
If a field is read-only or unsupported, keyboard shortcuts should not force it to become editable. Fix the mapping or leave the field read-only until there is a safe write path.
